At the Tattersalls Horses in Training sale in October we bought this magnificent son of Arch for 135,000Gns. He really is a splendid individual who looks to be a seriously exciting hurdler in the making. On pedigree, looks and performance he ticks all the boxes; he is rated 95 by the official handicapper and 101+ by Timeform so has the size and scope to improve considerably the older he gets. Once he settled in at Ditcheat, Sunwise took to jumping really well; he seems to thoroughly enjoy it and, as well as being able to stand off at his hurdles, he is also quick and clever when he gets in close.
On 14th February Sunwise ran very respectably on his debut at Exeter to finish third, beaten 2½ lengths. The plan now will be to wait until the new jumps season before running Sunwise again prior to the horse having a couple of months holiday and then bringing him back for a full campaign starting in November. Sunwise is a horse who is still changing and developing and the improvement to come will be pretty significant so next season we will be going to war with a very useful horse.
Sunwise returned to the yard following his summer break and started cantering in early August so Paul will gradually build up his conditioning and fitness work through the next month to six weeks.
