As well as recording victories in the English and Irish Derby’s, he also won two Breeders’ Cup Turf races. He is a successful stallion in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere and is the sire of New Zealand bred So You Think who has dominated middle distance races in Australia and more recently in the UK and Ireland. Pistol’s dam Alinea (Kingmambo) was unraced but is the dam of two winners. Pistol’s granddam Angela Serra (Arctic Tern) was a Group 2 winner in Italy and was a prolific producer of black-type winners including Via Borghese (Seattle Dancer) who won the Group 3 Desmond Stakes before being beaten by a nose in the Group 1 Beverley D Stakes at Arlington in Chicago. El Angelo (El Gran Senor) was third in the Group 2 Prix Dollar at Longchamp while Miswaki Tern (Miswaki) was the Champion Miler in Italy where he won the Group 2 Premio Ribot in Rome. The last two named both stood as stallions.
