A weekend of stakes action awaits

6th October, 2017

There is a busy weekend of Group and Heritage Handicap action ahead and on more than one continent! Pageantry will kick things off in the Edward Manifold Stakes (Gr 2) at Flemington for her first start at a mile. Later that afternoon Projection and Johnny Barnes will be lining up in consecutive races at Ascot. Projection tries his hand at Group level for the first time in the Bengough Stakes (Gr 3) and Johnny Barnes returns to seven furlongs in the totescoop6 Challenge Cup, a distance over which he won impressively at Goodwood two starts ago.

In France, we have the once-raced Luminate stepping into Group company in the Prix de Conde (Gr 3) at Chantilly where she takes on five colts, including Godolphin's Stage Magic who brings some very strong form into the race. To round off the weekend our recent purchase, Gustavus Vassa, is having his first start in the Highclere colours in the Irish Cesarewitch on Sunday. The race is being held at Navan while the Curragh undergoes redevelopment and because of the nature of the track there will be a flag start for the race, which includes twenty-nine runners. Gustavus Vassa is trained by Willie Mullins who has won the race for the last two years, including with a three-year-old in 2016. It will be a big ask for Gustavus Vassa on just his fourth career start, but no better man could be training him!
