Ballywood and Danse Idol entered at Cheltenham

9th December, 2019

Highclere Racing and its owners could be doubly represented at Cheltenham this Saturday with both Ballywood and Danse Idol entered at Prestbury Park.

Ballywood, trained by Alan King, finished a most encouraging third on his first completed outing of the season at Ascot last time in the £125,000 Gerard Bertrand Hurst Park Handicap Chase on 23 November.  Chopped off on the turn for home that day and thought likely to appreciate better going, Ballywood is one of only eleven horses entered into the Cheltenham Club Handicap Chase, a Class 2 race over 2m 62y (1:20pm).

The Paul Nicholls-trained mare Danse Idol was a model of consistency (apart from on her seasonal debut) last season over hurdles, winning twice and placing second three times in Listed and Grade 2 company.  A big run was expected on her return to action at Wincanton last month but after travelling strongly for much of the race she tired from the turn for home.  Danse Idol is one of 31 entrants in the Class 2 Mares' Handicap Hurdle over 2m 4f 56y (3:40pm).
