Brian Hughes puts Evander into Cruise Control

4th February, 2020

Evander had been unfortunate to unseat young Ross Turner at the first hurdle on his previous appearance and he resumed winning ways in no uncertain terms when cruising to an easy win in the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Novices’ Hurdle at Sedgefield today.

Ridden for the first time by the prolific Brian Hughes, Evander soon went into a clear lead and never saw another horse as he sauntered to an easy victory and finished seven lengths clear of the well-backed second favourite Kerrkenny Gold.

This was Evander’s second success at Sedgefield, following up a similarly facile win over a furlong shorter distance on Boxing Day.  Evander has a high cruising speed, with Brian Hughes commenting live on Attheraces that he’d looked around after three hurdles and couldn’t believe he was so far clear as it hadn't felt like he was overracing.

Many congratulations to Evander and all of his owners in the Henry Moore Syndicate, jockey Brian Hughes and trainer Oliver Greenall.
