Sir Henry Cecil: Given the nod by Highclere
Sky Bet
Sir Henry Cecil will train for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing for the first time in 2012 after being sent two yearlings by the leading owners.
Cecil has enjoyed a tremendous year, with Frankel stealing all the headlines thanks to his multiple Group One triumphs, while the trainer also recently received his knighthood from the Queen.
Highclere managing director Harry Herbert is thrilled to have added Cecil to the roster. He said: “We are very much looking forward to becoming part of the team at Warren Place. To have someone like Sir Henry training for you is fantastic. ”We’ve sent him two yearlings and the syndicates sold out so quickly once people knew we had Sir Henry on board.
Under Bidder
“We’ve sent him a Shamardal colt who we bought for £110,000 at Tattersalls. Henry was actually the under bidder for him and told me he was mad about him.
“He said he wasn’t sure how Highclere worked but asked if he could put his name down to train him so to speak and when someone like Henry Cecil says that to you, how can you say no?
“We have also sent him a Duke Of Marmalade filly who we bought for £80,000 and it is very exciting to be involved.
“Every year we like to try and add a trainer or two and who better than Sir Henry?”
