Crievehill’s Grand National Weight

11th February, 2020

The handicapper has unveiled the weights for the £1,000,000 Randox Health Grand National to be run at Aintree on Saturday 4 April and Highclere's Crievehill has been allotted 10st 8lb.

The weights are of course headed by Tiger Roll, who will bid to become the only horse to win the race three times in a row, and to emulate the heroic Red Rum who triumphed three times in the race in 1973, 1974 and 1977, should connections give him the green light to run.  Tiger Roll has top weight of 11st 10lb with the Handicapper electing to supress the weights by 1lb to 170.

Nigel Twiston-Davies is the only current trainer to have won the race with two different horses following his successes with Earth Summit in 1998 and Bindaree in 2002, with the Naunton-based handler having six other horses entered besides Crievehill into this year's race.

Crievehill has long been viewed as a ‘National’ type by his trainer and at the age of eight is very much on course to take his place in the starting line-up for the first time.  The son of Arcadio has been a wide-margin winner of two of this season’s three starts, with prize money earnings close to £40,000.  He is an intended runner in the 888Sport Handicap Chase, a Grade 3 race over three miles at Kempton on Saturday 22 February, after which his trainer is likely to begin the final preparations for the Aintree spectacular!
