Fantail makes impressive winning debut

19th November, 2019

Fantail had been showing up very well at home prior to making her debut in a very hot-looking Fillies' Novice Stakes at Chelmsford on 19 November 2019, but nobody had dared to dream that she would run out such an impressive winner at her very first attempt.

The daughter of Zoffany faced tough opposition from a number of leading yards, including an odds-on shot trained by Roger Varian, but they all proved to be absolutely no match for the talented Fantail.  She was quickly into her stride and despite taking a strong hold at the head of affairs was able to extend her lead over a furlong out and soon had the race won well and truly won, coasting home by two and half lengths as the rest of the field failed to land any impression.

Fantail has always been viewed as a potentially very nice filly by Simon Crisford, but expectations have always been that she would be a much better 3yo and she will now enjoy her winter holiday as owners in the Claire Lomas Syndicate dream of what might be next year.  She is likely to start off in one of the Classic trials and there is plenty of time to think about where that might be.
