Ferus Victory for Highclere Australia

27th February, 2020

A Winning Combination: Jockey, Horse & Sire!  With the addition of blinkers for the first time and a positive ride by Linda Meech, Ferus produced an impressive win over 1200m at Terang in Australia on Wednesday.

With an in-form jockey on board Ferus bounced out of stall seven and into the lead shortly after the start of the Maiden Plate, he then proceeded to lead all the way and record his first win by two and three-quarter lengths in the slick time of 1:10.39, more than one second faster than the other 1200m race on the card.

Linda was impressed with the way Ferus applied himself in blinkers, “He jumped smartly and was never headed - it was a good strong win.”  Highclere Australia owners and trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have been patient with Ferus and judging by his win on Wednesday, we might not have to wait much longer for his next win.

Indeed the win was timely as the progeny of Written Tycoon have been excelling of late, notably the flying chestnut mare Pippie, who scorched away with last Saturday’s Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield with Linda in the saddle, clocking up her second Group 1 win for her career. Champion Victorian Stallion Written Tycoon continues to go from strength to strength with not only his progeny on the track, but his yearlings in the sale ring.

At the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale his progeny sold up to $1,500,000 and averaged $270,000. His record-breaking top lot was a filly out of Karuta Queen which had a number of great judges around the complex talking. She was the most expensive filly to go through the ring since 2018 and was the third highest price yearling of the sale overall, the demand for his progeny continues to rise.

Ferus has always shown winning ability but being gelded and the addition of blinkers has had a positive effect on this son of Written Tycoon.
