Headway runs an absolute stormer to finish second in the Coventry
20th June, 2017
Headway out ran his odds to finish a superb second in The Coventry Stakes (Gr 2), beaten only a head by the winner Rajasinghe. Everything went very smoothly through the race for this son of first season sire Havana Gold; he jumped well from the gates and got into stride very quickly to settle into stride just in behind the leaders. He travelled very strongly under Pat Cosgrave and, although he had a wall of horses in front of him, he was one of the last off the bridle as they approached the final furlong of the race. He then stormed to the lead of the nearside group under a strong drive from Pat Cosgrave, but unfortunately the winner was picking up on the far side of the track and so the two horses we far apart as they neared the winning post. The margin of victory and defeat can be agonisingly close and today was one of those days for members of the Royal Ascot Racing Club, but they will undoubtedly be hugely proud of Headway's brave performance and hopefully he will have his day in the future.
