Hijack for Paddy Power Sandown EBF Final

3rd March, 2020

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s Hijack is on target to run in the European Breeders’ Fund Paddy Power ‘National Hunt’ Handicap Hurdle Final (Grade 3) at Sandown on Saturday 7 March.  The 5yo Fame And Glory gelding was the comfortable winner of his first two outings over hurdles, both victories coming over the minimum distance of two miles at Ludlow.

Burdened with a double penalty last time at Market Rasen, Hijack was expected to be well suited by stepping up in distance to an extended two and a half miles.  However, his jumping was uncharacteristically lacklustre and trainer Nicky Henderson’s representative reported that he appeared to have been unsuited by the sharp nature of the track.

On that occasion he finished 21 lengths behind Paul Nicholls’ highly-regarded runner McFabulous, who interestingly is the only horse currently trading at single figure odds in the ante-post betting for Saturday’s £75,000 handicap hurdle.  Hijack, who at 25/1 is currently over four times the odds of McFabulous, will be able to reoppose on a stone better terms this weekend and has schooled very well again at home since his last run.
