Interstate Group Features for Highclere Runners in Australia

27th September, 2017

The September/October long weekend is considered the greatest weekend of sport in Australia. And there is little reason to argue when the weekend consists of two major sporting Grand Finals, and three consecutive days of Group 1 racing between Sydney and Melbourne. Friday night kicks off proceedings in Melbourne at Moonee Valley with the G1 Moir Stakes the feature race on the card. Highclere will be represented on the evening by our UK export Foundation, who will be looking to make amends in the Group 3 MSC Signs JRA Cup at 8:30pm local time (11:30am UK time), after being desperately unlucky not to win last time out at The Valley over the same distance. Co-trainer David Hayes couldn't be happier with Foundation heading into Friday evening and expects a competitive performance in the $200,000 event.

On Saturday, Epsom Day in Sydney will be competing for audiences with the AFL Grand Final at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) where Richmond will take on the Adelaide Crows for AFL's 'Holy Grail'. Highclere owners in Libran will no doubt be putting the AFL on the back burner when their gelding lines up in the $750,000 Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Royal Randwick at 4.45pm. The son of Lawman bounced back to form a fortnight ago to win the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes at the same track and will appreciate the step-up to a mile and a half third-up on Saturday. Chris Waller saddles four runners in the race, including the top three in the betting at $5.50; Life Less Ordinary, Antonio Guiseppe and Libran.

A huge weekend of racing and sport, so fingers crossed Highclere share owners will have more than one reason to celebrate!
