Libran Earns His Spot in the 2017 Melbourne Cup

28th October, 2017

Saturday’s Group 2 McCafe Moonee Valley Gold Cup saw Libran come close to pulling off a last to first effort around the tight turning Moonee Valley circuit, only to come away a neck short of his stablemate Who Shot Thebarman. While Libran may not have won yesterday, he has now earned himself a position in final field for ‘the race that stops a nation’, the $6 million Melbourne Cup. Currently sitting 23rd in the official order of entry, Libran is expected to comfortably make the final field for the first Tuesday in November where he will re-oppose Who Shot Thebarman who will compete in his fifth Melbourne Cup. The difference this time around will be the three kilogram turn around at the weights between the stablemates, who will both have to overcome a top class field which includes last year's winner Almandin.

The final field for the Melbourne Cup will be drawn on the evening of Saturday 4th November, following VRC Derby Day.
