Libran to find his footing in Neville Sellwood

27th March, 2019

What is seemingly more and more like clock work every year, the beginning of autumn in Sydney has brought about a consistent deluge of rain to cause havoc on the racing scene after we saw yet another Heavy 10 surface for the $3 million Golden Slipper on Saturday. While horses like Kiamichi certainly aren't complaining, we've had to be cautious with Libran's preparation as a horse who doesn't produce his best on extremes of ground. Libran's three attempts on a Heavy track have resulted in duck eggs and while the Rosehill surface is currently posting a Heavy 8, the clearing forecast is looking likely of seeing the surface improve to a Soft 6 come Saturday for Tancred Stakes Day.

"Obviously (Libran) was scratched from Saturday but we have been able to keep plenty of work into him and his fitness levels seem high. His work on Tuesday morning was super over 1200m and finished off really well as we head towards Rosehill on Saturday over the 2000m distance. The track at this stage is a heavy 8 but considering it would have been a heavy 10 only two days ago, and that first part of the track to dry is always the hardest, so it should quickly improve now and I would be confident it will get back to a soft 6. I couldn't guarantee it would get better than that but I would certainly be happy to run on a soft 6 based under the current circumstances of having missed so many runs. The race looks to suit being a set weights and penalties race and he has a good draw with a good strong jockey aboard with Brenton." Chris Waller

Wishing Libran's shareowners the very best of luck on Saturday in the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes over 2000m where he has drawn ideally in stall two with Brenton Avdulla. Win, lose or draw our focus will then turn towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival in May and June with this grand old stayer, where the Group 2 Brisbane Cup will be his main aim.
