Lots of Festive Cheering

31st December, 2019

Evander gave his Highclere Racing owners plenty to shout about when he galloped his rivals into submission to win at Sedgefield on Boxing Day, but there was also plenty for the owners of Highclere’s other runners over the Festive period to cheer about.

After winning on her seasonal/chasing debut If You Say Run had then finished second in a Grade 2 Novices’ Chase at Wincanton and she returned to that track for a Mares’ Novices’ Chase on Boxing Day.  Sent off the hot 1-2 favourite, she tended to jump badly to her left and gave best to the useful winner Annie Mc from the second-last.  She was only beaten four lengths at the finish and her trainer Paul Nicholls will now look for a similar race on a left-handed track.

The following day Danse Idol ran very well to finish third in a Class 2 mares’ handicap hurdle at Kempton.  Sent off the 3-1 favourite, Danse Idol took a keen hold as she was held up at the rear of the field.  Having made up some ground three out she then hit a flat spot before staying on best of all again into third place.  It was a run that hinted of much better to come and Paul Nicholls is also considering the option of sending Danse Idol over fences for the first time.

Clondaw Anchor has literally made giant strides in novice chases this season and took another step forward when finishing second in a Class 3 novices’ handicap chase at Chepstow on Welsh National Day.  He made much of the running and had his field stretched from the final turn for home, but made a bad mistake at the third-last, which eventually cost him the race as he lost the lead on the run-in.

Highclere Racing’s runners over the Christmas week resulted in a winner, two seconds and a third, with the prospect of even better to come from these horses.
