No End to Fantail’s Potential

24th January, 2020

Fantail is a filly that has everyone excited about for the Flat season ahead.  A daughter of the high-class racehorse and sire Zoffany, out of Pretty Polly Stakes second Red Fantasy (by Derby and multiple Group 1 winner High Chapparal), Fantail was unearthed by the Highclere team for only 75,000gns at the 2018 Book 1 Tattersalls Yearling Sale.

Trained by Simon Crisford in Newmarket, who had always felt that she was a potentially very nice filly, Fantail made a most impressive winning racecourse debut at Chelmsford at the backend of last year.  Despite taking a keen hold throughout the one mile contest, she made all and quickly asserted her superiority in the final furlong to readily draw 2 ½l clear of subsequent dual winner Island Hideaway and twelve others.

Fantail’s pedigree strongly indicates that she is going to be suited by one and a quarter miles at three, and possibly a little further.  It will therefore be fascinating to see how she has progressed in her work at home this spring and at what level, which could possibly even be in one of the Classic trials, she will begin the new season.  Judging by how well she looked on a recent visit to Newmarket, the sky could be limit for her!
