Sandown’s EBF Final Hijacked by Weather

9th March, 2020

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s Hijack had been an intended runner in last Saturday’s European Breeders’ Fund ‘National Hunt’ Handicap Hurdle Final (Grade 3) at Sandown, only for the meeting to become another casualty of this wettest of winters.

The good news is that the British Horseracing Authority has over the weekend announced that it will be re-staging the race at Kempton this Saturday, 14 March.  The original entries for Sandown do not stand and the race has been reopened for entries this morning.

Stuart Middleton, Racing Operations Manager at the BHA, said: "After every abandonment, lost races are reviewed in order to establish the timeframe until the next equivalent opportunity exists.  In the case of the EBF Finals it is clear that they represent unique opportunities within the programme and are often season-long targets for the horses engaged.”

Trainer Nicky Henderson intends to run Hijack at Kempton this Saturday, where the going is soft, good to soft in places.
