The Cheltenham Round-Up

15th March, 2019

Well that's a wrap on the 2019 Cheltenham Festival and a busy few days for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing with five runners! We didn't come away with a winner but Crievehill gave his share owners a great thrill as he leapt around the Gold Cup course in the Kim Muir on Thursday like a stag and stormed up the hill to finish in fourth place. He has proven himself a top class staying chaser in the making and hopefully all roads now lead to the Topham at Aintree next month...

Of the other runners, Posh Trish was our big fancy of the week but she struggled to go the frenetic pace in the Mares Novice on Thursday and never really got into a good rhythm. She has been a star for the syndicate this season and they have a lot to look forward to next season when she goes novice chasing.

Whatswrongwithyou for the 5 Hertford Street Racing Club ran in the Grand Annual on Friday. The tempo was fierce and his jumping was novicey to begin with. He started to creep into contention from well off the pace but with too much to do in the end to be competitive. He ran on strongly to finish seventh of the 20 runners. Nicky Henderson will look for a race at Aintree for him next.

If You Say Run and Style de Garde both ran in the Martin Pipe on the same day. The former was unsuited by the soft and very cut up ground, on the last race of the week and was pulled up by Bryony Frost. Style de Garde looked like running a massive race as he pinged the second last and lead the field into the home straight, however, he got tapped for toe in the closing stages. He stayed on well up the hill to finish a very respectable tenth of the 24 runners.
