Drama for Highclere
The parade of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s yearlings for next year’s syndicates is always a star-studded affair, and even more so this year as the Christmas special of the television series Downton Abbey was being filmed at Highclere Castle at the same time.
Among the 800 people invited to Highclere’s four-day event were the Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, the Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis and the boxer Barry McGuigan. John Warren, the Highclere director, has evidently been teaching his son the art of networking too, as Jake Warren runs the syndicate which own Friday’s Newbury winner Usain Colt, while Prince Harry is rumoured to be a member of the Betfair/Birdcage Racing Club, an offshoot of the Highclere syndicates.
