This week’s runners at Royal Ascot

20th June, 2017

The highlight of the racing season is upon us and we are thrilled to have five horses managed by Highclere running during the week. On day one HEADWAY will be taking his chance in The Coventry Stakes (Gr 2) and his trainer William Haggas feels that he has "a strong each way chance" at a big price. He was second over five furlongs at Newbury in April before winning in very good style over six at Chester. He should like the good to firm ground and could run a big race on just his third career start.

On the Wednesday Bermuda Thoroughbred Racing are represented by CASTLE HARBOUR who is one of thirty horses declared for The Royal Hunt Cup. Castle Harbour ran well in the Jersey behind Ribchester last year on just his third start and he comes back to Ascot in great form. He is a horse with plenty of talent and if things fall right for him in this notoriously difficult race he should have a great chance.

On Ladies Day it will be the turn of HERTFORD DANCER who represents 5 Hertford Street in The Ribblesdale Stakes (Gr 2). She shocked and delighted her owners by winning The Lingfield Oaks Trial (Listed) second time out this season and she is a genuine, honest stayer that deserves her place in the line up on Thursday.

And finally, on Saturday two Highclere managed horses will take their chance in The Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) over a fast and furious six furlongs. RAUCOUS will run in the famous pale blue silks for members of the Melbourne Syndicate and like Castle Harbour he ran in The Jersey Stakes (Gr 3) last year. He ran a big race, when finishing third in The Stewards' Cup, on the big stage at Goodwood and a fastly run six furlongs will be right up his street. PROJECTION also lines up for the Royal Ascot Racing Club and he too has run well in large field sprint handicaps, so it would be no surprise to see him run a big race.
