Thunderous Start

3rd February, 2020

Thunderous was a very classy and unbeaten two-year-old for the George Stubbs Syndicate and his trainer Mark Johnston is already planning where to start him off this year as his return to the racecourse draws ever nearer.

From the first crop of the exciting young sire and 2,000 Guineas winner Night Of Thunder (by Dubawi), Thunderous made an impressive winning debut at Doncaster and followed up with a comfortable victory under a penalty at Redcar.  Stepped up in class to Listed company for his final appearance of the season in the Denford Stakes at Newbury, he took it up with over a furlong to race and kept on strongly to win by one length.

Thunderous’ three successes to date have come over seven furlongs and he could well start this season in the Ladbrokes Burradon Stakes, a £100,00 1m Listed race for three year olds at Newcastle on Good Friday, 10 April if his preparation continues to go well.  He’s another exciting prospect and this Derby entrant is bred to potentially stay middle distances, with his Listed-winning dam by Dalakhani staying one and a half miles well during her racing career.
