Early Entries in Valuable Sales Races

15th February, 2020

As graduates of the Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster, the Highclere two-year-olds Digital (Kodi Bear colt trained by Kevin Ryan) and Host (Mehmas colt trained by Richard Hannon) have been given early race entries into the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes (Class 2) at York on Thursday, 20 August.  This six-furlong race has a total value of £300,000 with the winning horse set to receive a first prize of £147,540!  Host’s trainer Richard Hannon won the race last season with Mum’s Tipple who stunned the crowd when winning the 21-runner race by eleven lengths!

Also the Highclere two-year-old fillies Cirrus (by Starspangledbanner and trained by Richard Hannon) and Flotilla (by Cable Bay and trained by Ed Walker) have been given early closing entries into the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes (Class 2) which is to be run at Newmarket on Saturday 3 October.  Another six-furlong race, it has a total value of £150,000 with the winning horse receiving a first prize of £81,165.  Both Cirrus and Flotilla receive the usual 5lb fillies’ allowance and would have the added benefit of an additional 2lb allowance based on their sale prices.

These races are a long way off but are very valuable prizes for horses sold only at specific sales.  All four juveniles have delighted heir trainers so it makes good sense to have these entries covered at this very early stage, giving everyone the chance of having a crack at such potentially lucrative prizes.
