WALLER EXPECTING A “CHEEKY RUN” FROM LIBRAN IN SEASONAL RETURN

27th February, 2018

Libran is all set to make his return to the racetrack in Saturday's Gr 1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Royal Randwick for share owners, as he takes on the World's Highest Rated Turf Horse, Winx over the famous Randwick mile. The Chris Waller trained gelding has been pleasing his trainer in the lead up to Saturday after he commented to say that he has "worked well over the past week and enjoyed himself when galloping out on the course proper this morning on a soft surface which gave him plenty of cushion and he really stretched out nicely and finished his work off well."

The now eight-year-old son of Lawman has ammassed over $1 million in earnings since arriving to Australia and is fresh off his eighth placed effort in the 2017 Melbourne Cup, after winning the Gr 3 Kingston Town Stakes last Spring before running a close second in the Gr 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup. Waller has produced a light plan for Libran's autumn which was de-railed after striking heavy tracks last preparation, and will target just the four races this year with the Gr 3 Sky High Stakes and Gr 1 The BMW the likely path towards the Gr 1 Sydney Cup on the second day of The Championships. While the ultimate goal is the 3200m handicap on April 14th, Libran has been known to produce well fresh in the past and caught the eye when trialling behind Winx at Randwick a fortnight ago. While we certainly aren't expecting to beat the world's best turf horse, Chris is hopeful of an encouraging fresh run this weekend, suggesting "he might run a cheeky race fresh up on Saturday".
