Oliver bought Evander, a lovely gelding by Arcadio, at the 2019 Goffs UK horses in training sale.  Prior to that Evander had won a very competitive maiden point at Taylorstown (Ireland) in a good time, taking it up at the last and running on strongly.

He is every bit a chaser in the making but has started off this season in novice hurdles.  He was quite fresh for his first run at Ludlow in late October, taking a good hold and staying on well to finish second to the Evan Williams-trained Ballinsker, who had also been the winner of an Irish point, with the field well strung out behind.  On his second start over hurdles, at Huntingdon, he again jumped well and did everything right, just having the misfortune to bump into one (Logan Rocks) who looked a potentially smart prospect.

Evander can be expected to progress considerably as the season unfolds, but ultimately once he is handed the opportunity in future to jump fences.  It was therefore tremendous to see Evander put up an improved effort to win on his third outing under Rules when he made all of the running to win a 2 1/2 miles novices' hurdle at Sedgefield.  Evander was unfortunate to unseat his young rider at the first next time but then returned to Sedgefield to gain another bloodless victory, cruising home in the hands of Brian Hughes.  He should be capable of winning handicaps before potentially stepping up in class.

Evander is currently enjoying a well earned summer break.
