Clondaw Anchor

Clondaw Anchor is an imposing 17hh+ grey gelding.  In fact he is a ‘monster’ with chaser written all over him.  Bought by Tom Malone after a second in a point-to-point in Ireland, he comes from the family of Cheltenham winners, Peregrine Run and Champion Hurdler, Katchit.

Our grey gelding did everything expected of him when trotting up at Carlisle on his seasonal return in November 2018. Carrying a big penalty at Lingfield next time he was a gallant third, emerging as the best horse at the weights. He was marginally disappointing at Leicester next time, looking like the winner for much of the race and then ran a flat race at Wincanton, fading during the latter stages of the race.

Looking a much stronger horse, Clondaw Anchor made his debut over fences at Uttoxeter in mid-October, when he jumped like a stag in a well-contested event and found only Diablot de Rouhet too good.  Clondaw Anchor then sauntered to an impressive victory in a Class 3 3m race at Lingfield around one month later.  The imposing grey made all of the running and gradually wound up the pace and galloped his rivals into submission in the testing conditions.

Clondaw Anchor took another step forward when he finished second off a handicap rating of 137 in a competitive novices' handicap chase at Chepstow on Welsh National day.  He appeared to have the race at his mercy but a mistake three out cost him victory, according to his jockey Harry Skelton. He only had one further run before the end of the season where he was unfortunately pulled up in atrocious ground at Uttoxeter. He is now enjoying a summer holiday in preparation for next year.
