Crievehill is a six-year-old gelding who ran eight times last season winning ‘only’ two but accumulating prize money in every race bar his seasonal debut and rising 12lb in the handicap to 139. He can hardly be called badly handicapped when he won by twenty lengths at Sandown on his penultimate run and ran his best race when caught close home in the final of a valuable novice handicap chase series at Haydock.

After a summer in the field, Crievehill has come back with a good attitude. His seasonal debut at Uttoxeter was very encouraging, jumping like a stag throughout the race and finishing runner up. Nigel Twiston-Davies assures us he will come on for the run, and he believes this horse has a lot of versatility distance wise. With his first taste of Aintree Crievehill showed in the Grand Sefton Chase that he not only jumps impeccably but shoould relish a step up in trip. He was somewhat disappointing on his next outing at Wetherby where he faded in what was a fast run race, following which he finished fourth in a very competitive Swinley Chase at Ascot.

With rain finally having arrived Nigel Twiston-Davies decided to run him in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival. Crievehill led from an early stage and jumped superbly until being headed in the latter stages but stayed on gamely to finish fourth. With conditions remaining so dry Nigel was unable to get another run out of Crievehill this season who is now enjoying a well deserved break.
