Contango (AUS)

This athletic son of Champion Middle Distance Horse and six time Gr 1 winner Dundeel, was purchased in partnership with Australia's leading stud farm, Arrowfield, who were only too happy to stay in their homebred colt through his racing career. He is the first foal out the five time winning Elusive Quality mare, Glove, who won over $110,000 in prizemoney for her connections before retiring to stud. His pedigree is steeped with black-type performers including the Gr 1 Irish Oaks winner Lailani, and Royal Ascot winners Faithful Son, who won the Group 2 Prince Of Wales Stakes, and the Group 2 Coventry stakes winner Always Fair who went on to be a sire.

Not only is he the spitting image of his sire, as you will see in the footage below, he has a tremendous balance and athleticism to him which is showcased in the way he floats across the ground. John Warren scored him as a 'must buy' individual so you can imagine how delighted we were to have secured him for a reasonable $230,000 in what was a strong market.

Originally with Bjorn Baker ,Contango did not enjoy the hustle and bustle of a city stable and the quiet private country environment will assist him in reaching his potential.  Contango has thrived in his new training stable based at Scone with Paul Messara, as result he was able to get his break through maiden win. Country Racing in NSW is in great shape and this move puts Contango in a great position to take full advantage of what is on offer for country-based horses. We look forward to the future.
