One of the top lots at Doncaster Premier Sale, Luxor grabbed the attention of several people before John and Jake were able to secure this colt for £190,000 guineas. By Champion sire, Oasis Dream, and out of a precocious two-year-old winner in Eminently, Luxor was one of our more precocious types.

Placed with William Haggas, he made his debut at Windsor and found the whole experience to be rather overwhelming, nonetheless he coped well. Having got his first run out of the way, we were looking forward to seeing him duplicate the quality of work he has produced on the Newmarket Heath. His next run was the improvement expected and he won a six-furlong Maiden, then missed the break and raced a little too keenly when a close third in a Novice at Ripon.  His final start at 2 was by far his most accomplished run, travelling powerfully throughout and bursting clear impressively in the final furlong to win a smart Nursery at Newbury from a rating of 85.

Luxor’s three runs in the early part of his 3yo season did not get him off to the best of starts and he was found to have sustained an injury which kept him off the track for the remainder of the year.  He made a satisfactory comeback in condtions (good to firm) that were not ideal for him at Windsor. He has recently moved to Keith Dalgleish. After two somewhat poor runs from Luxor he showed some promise at Chester. He ran a much better race finishing 5th of the 11 runners but only 2.5 lengths behind the winner. He then missed the break at Thirsk and found he had too much ground to make up, also he didn't enjoy the ground which had dried up since being stated as soft. Luxor then ran a very close third at Ayr putting a great effort in for a race where he had to do everything the hard way. His next run back at the same track did not live up to expectations, where he looked as if he was going to finish in the frame, however tamely petered out and drifted back down the field. Luxor's ran another lacklustre performance at Musselburgh to come sixth of ten runners. We are hoping to give him one more run before he heads to the sales.
