Orbys Legend

We couldn’t resist popping into Cheltenham to see what was being offered at the Tattersalls February sale last year- one which always throws up a handful of superstars. We were met by bloodstock agent Tom Malone and together looked at several young horses – there was one which immediately made it into our notebooks and that was this very smart looking four year-old son of Milan, Orbys Legend.

We were delighted to secure him for £80,000. His sire, Milan (Coolmore), has long been considered one of the top National Hunt sires in England and Ireland, producing countless Grade 1 winners including Jezki, Martello Tower, Apache Stronghold and Beat That. Orbys Legend is out of a half-sister to nine time winner Morning Royalty and the pedigree overall, although young, is an improving one.

Orbys Legend is trained by Philip Hobbs who needs no introduction. In the hands of Richard Johnson, Orbys Legend travelled powerfully in his debut in the HTR colours in a very competitive bumper to come a close second and show a sharp turn of foot. He then made the perfect start to his hurdling career when winning a competitive affair at Exeter. Having led for most of the race it looked as if he might be overhauled but showed a really good attitude to fight back and win convincingly. A very exciting prospect!
