By New Approach, who was himself a very impressive European Champion, and Derby Winner, Pesto is typical of his sire’s progeny and took a little time to come into himself.  His dam is from a family that we know very well. Pickle, a multiple Group 3 winner herself, produced one of our great horses in Gusto (trained by Richard Hannon Snr.)

Pesto improved from his debut race at Newbury, where he was very green and immature, to finish a strong fourth at Sandown and only narrowly missing out on third.   Next time he took another big step forward to win a 7f Novice at Leicester, leading a furlong from home and coming home strongly to win by 4 lengths.

Pesto wintered well and developed into a fine looking colt, making his 3yo debut in a handicap at Sandown where he encountered traffic problems before battling on very impressively to dead heat! Two other good efforts this season from Pesto were his close second and fourth places over 1m at Kempton, from a handicap rating in the 90s.  The way that Pesto has been finishing his races strongly indicates that he it well worth trying him over a longer distance.
