Platform Nineteen

Platform Nineteen takes his name from the Waterloo to Ascot service for that delightful week in June when the racing world is drawn to the Royal Meeting. He is by Australia out of Susan Stroman. Australia was Champion Three-Year-Old Colt in Europe in 2014, winning multiple Group Ones including the Investec Derby, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and the Juddmonte International Stakes. He was bred by Lord and Lady Lloyd-Webber’s Watership Down Stud and his dam, Susan Stroman, is a half-sister to The Fugue (Champion Older Mare in 2013 and 2014). A multiple Group One winner, The Fugue’s credentials include Irish Champion Stakes, The Nassau Stakes, The Prince of Wales Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks.

Platform Nineteen had one run for experience as a two-year-old and was viewed as the type to improve greatly over longer distances.

He started 2019 with runs in 1m 2f Novice Stakes, earning himself a handicap rating and the opportunity to tackle two miles for the first time.  He ran with great credit on his handicap debut on soft going at Catterick, where he did all of his best work at the end of the race, finishing second. He then improved markedly on good to firm going at Beverley, winning by eight lengths and looking a stayer of some potential.  His progressive profile improved with each of his next three races, gaining further handicap successes at Nottingham, Beverley and York, bringing up four wins on the bounce and seeing his handicap rating rise by a total of 24lb!  He ran in front of the home team at Ascot in early October but unfortunately did not handle the heavy conditions and was put away for the winter in anticipation of another exciting season in staying handicaps.

Unfortunately Platfrom Nineteen suffered a setback in the spring which will keep him off the track until next season.
