Ben Saunders is one of the world’s leading polar explorers, and a recordbreaking long-distance skier who has covered more than 4,300 miles on foot in the Polar Regions since 2001. His accomplishments include leading The Scott Expedition, the longest human-powered polar journey in history, and the first completion of the expedition that defeated Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton, a 105-day round-trip from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole.

Ben is the first Briton – and the third person in history – to ski solo to both Poles, and holds the record for the longest solo Arctic journey by  a Briton. He is a global brand ambassador for Land Rover, an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a patron of British Exploring, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and an acclaimed keynote speaker, described by TED (where he has spoken three times) as “A master storyteller”.

William Haggas has enjoyed a long and successful association with Highclere, including victories in the Steward’s Cup with Conquest, the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot with Approve and many globetrotting successes with the German 2,000 Guineas winner Brunel. He has consistently performed at the top level and his two training yards in Newmarket have the most wonderful facilities and visits there are always fun and informative. William has built up a first class team around him and boasts probably the most impressive array of equine equipment of any yard in Newmarket.

Freddy Head has been responsible for the careers of some real superstars including Goldikova, Moonlight Cloud, Charm Spirit and more recently Solow. He has  a hugely talented filly for Highclere in Luminate who  is currently unbeaten and a dual Group winner! The plan is to buy another filly to send to Freddy in order  to attempt to continue this remarkable run of success. We have honed our visits to beautiful Chantilly where we stay at the Aga Khan’s very comfortable hotel the Jeu de Paume and Alex has of course found the best restaurant in the region!
