Son of jumping trainer Jack Jones, young Herbert’s first victory came when he won the Triple Crown on the Prince of Wales’ horse. He was consequently nicnamed ’Diamond Jones’ and went on to win the Derby on Minoru for King Edward VII. He was badly injured in a fall in the 1913 Derby when the suffragette Emily Davison threw herself in front of Anmer as he rounded Tattenham Corner.
Michael Bell has long been one of our principal trainers and was responsible for the Highclere managed and Royal Ascot Racing Club owned 2005 Derby winner Motivator. He has trained numerous good horses over the years for us and for his other owners, which this year include Wigmore Hall who won the Northern Dancer Stakes (Grade 1) in Canada and Margot Did who won the Nunthrope Stakes (Group 1) at York.
Richard Hannon was crowned Champion Trainer in 2010 in a season which saw him win 214 races and some £3 million in prize money for his owners. He has consistently trained an array of top class horses for Highclere, including last year our star two-year-old filly Memory, who won both the Albany Stakes (Group 3) at Royal Ascot and the Cherry Hinton (Group 2) at Newmarket. The flagbearer this year has been Census who won the Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) at Newbury.
