John Porter was undoubtedly the most successful trainer of the Victorian era. From Park House Stables where Andrew Balding now resides, he trained the winners of twenty-three Classics including three Triple Crown winners and a total of seven Derbys. He was also founder and managing director of Newbury Racecourse.
Andrew Balding joined our training ranks last season and gave us a winner with his first Highclere runner in the shape of Baptist at Newbury. Andrew took over the license at Kingsclere from his father in January 2003 and made an immediate impact that year when Casual Look won the Group 1 Vodafone Oaks. Park House Stables ranks as one of the most historic and beautiful in the country and it was on these gallops that the mighty Mill Reef was trained by his father Ian. All of our owners visiting Kingsclere are thoroughly impressed not only with the facilities but also the wonderfully warm welcome given by Andrew and his wife, Anna Lisa.
Roger Varian took over the reins in February 2011 at Kremlin House Stables in Newmarket having been assistant trainer for ten years to Michael Jarvis who very sadly died in September 2011. Roger saddled our own Dominant to win a valuable sales race at Newmarket in June and has clearly shown that under his management Kremlin House will continue to thrive and produce top class racehorses.
