Ben Pauling
Ben Pauling is a very exciting up and coming trainer having already achieved big wins at both Cheltenham and Aintree festivals.
Ben started training at the beginning of the 2013 season after spending six years as Nicky Henderson's assistant. He made a great start to his training career with nine winners in his first season, twenty in his second, to twenty six in his third season, including Grade 1 successes with Barters Hill in the Challow Hurdle at Newbury and Willoughby Court winning the Grade 1 Neptune Investment Novice Hurdle and his first Cheltenham Festival winner. He buys most of his horses as stores (unraced) with future potential. He aims to build from scratch and educate his horses early to progress up the levels
He is based at Bourton Hill in Gloucestershire, near Bourton on the Water with facilities second to none. Including a 6½ Furlong bowmoss all-weather gallop, climbing 161ft from bottom to top made from shredded carpet fibres, considerably reducing the number of injuries occurring at home with an amazing resilience to frost in the winter. Also a deep-sanded round gallop just over 2 furlongs, allowing horses to use themselves on a surface that replicates soft ground. An indoor and outdoor school used for warm-up, loose jumping and flat work. He has a grass schooling field with cross-country jumps, hurdles, and regulation fences and an all-weather Schooling Strip with 3 Easyfix hurdles followed by 3 Easyfix fences over 3 furlongs to enable schooling all year round. Ben also has an ECB Spa which he uses frequently and is proven to successfully address virtually all lower leg injuries, particularly those associated with increased stress from training.
