Charlie Fellowes
Location: Newmarket, Suffolk. Charlie’s success as a trainer continues to go from strength to strength and he has now expanded his operation following his purchase of the historic Bedford House Stables in Newmarket in April 2019, the base of Luca Cumani for more than forty years. It is a stable with a rich history of winners, including Cumani’s Derby winners High-Rise and Kahyasi.
Charlie has continued the success of the yard and in 2019 gained an emotional first Royal Ascot triumph with Thanks Be, ridden by Hayley Turner. His stable runners amassed prize money of close to £½ million in Great Britain and Ireland and he has also enjoyed considerable success with forays overseas, as in 2019 Prince Of Arran won a first prize in Australia of £133k and also finished a brave second in the Melbourne Cup, picking up more than £600k in the process and adding to his previous big money wins in Australia and Dubai!
Moonlit Show provided Charlie his first stakes win when taking the Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse, while other fillies to have thrived in the yard and achieved black type include Mia Tesoro and This Is The Day. In 2019 he won a Listed race with the smart two-year-old King Carney and also enjoyed success in quality handicaps, winning the Northumberland Vase with Carnwennan and the Unibet Fillies’ Handicap at Glorious Goodwood with Maid For Life.
From the age of six, Charlie started to develop an infatuation with horseracing and he has worked with great horseman like James Fanshawe, Lee Freedman and Nicky Henderson. He is a trainer firmly on the up and Highclere are delighted to continue our association with him.
