Ciaron Maher and David Eustace
Location: Australia. For his relatively short time in training, Ciaron has proven himself to be the most exciting young trainer in Australia who has continued to go from strength to strength each season over the last ten years, building a strong stable at his Caulfiled base in Melbourne. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season Ciaron announced that his assistant trainer, David Eustace, would join him in the training partnership at Ciaron Maher Racing to our delight.
Ciaron began as a dual trainer in Warrnambool, the home of jumps racing in Australia, after successfully competing as a jumps jockey in Australia and rode in England, Ireland and Dubai during his career. After training numerous top class performers over jumps, Ciaron discovered the thrill of Group 1 success on the flat in 2007, less than three years into his training career, with Tears I Cry in the Group 1 VRC Emirates Stakes at Flemington. Since then, Ciaron has saddled top-level winners across Australia including multiple Group 1 winner Srikandi, VRC Oaks winner Set Square and most recently his VRC Oaks, Caulfield Cup and The BMW winner Jameka, who has flown the flag for Ciaron over recent seasons. His talents with fillies are well renowned, but Ciaron proved he can produce a top-class colt as well with Bon Aurum claiming the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Flemington in 2017.
Hailing from the home of horse racing in Newmarket, David Eustace is well known among both Highclere Australia and UK share owners alike having grown-up working for his father/trainer James Eustace and former assistant to Highclere trainer Roger Varian during his early apprenticeship. David has spent time with some of the best in the business including Peter Moody in Melbourne and Peter Snowden in Sydney before landing the assistant trainer role with Ciaron Maher two years ago which, during Ciaron's six month suspension, saw David take a leading role in the care of Aloisia and Merchant Navy to win at the elite level during the 2017 Spring.
