David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig

Location: Australia.  David is a highly accomplished trainer and the youngest trainer ever to be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. Since taking over the reins of Lindsay Park in 1990 from his father Colin, David had immediate success claiming consecutive Melbourne and Adelaide Trainer's Premierships up until 1995. During his first five seasons David trained 31 individual Group 1 winners, including Melbourne Cup winner Jeune and one of Australia's most influential horses, Better Loosen Up, who triumphed in Australia's premier weight for age event, the G1 Cox Plate, and followed it up a month later in Tokyo to win the G1 Japan Cup - the only Australian trainer to ever achieve that feat. This success drew the attention of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, who invited him to train in 1996 where he completed 9 successful seasons claiming two Trainer's Premierships (never finishing out of the top 4) and 17 individual Group 1 wins.

Since returning to Australia in 2005 David has managed another two Melbourne Trainer's Premierships and 29 Group 1 winners. In recent years, David has teamed up with his eldest son Ben, who operates in the training partnership overseeing the interstate stables, while David’s nephew Tom Dabernig also trains alongside David at Euroa in the partnership.
