John Gosden

John Gosden OBE first trained for Highclere in 1996 and the next year provided our first Royal Ascot winner when Heritage won the King George V Handicap Stakes under Frankie Dettori.  The association has endured.

John was crowned Champion Trainer for the first time in 2012. He repeated the feat in 2015 and currently leads the trainers’ table by a healthy £1.5m with a phenomenal strike rate of 27 per cent. John has handled some exceptional horses in recent years including The Fugue, Nathaniel, Taghrooda, Kingman, Golden Horn and most recently Enable and Cracksman. His flagship this year has been Juddmonte International winner and Coral-Eclipse winner Roaring Lion. Enable recently returned to action to make history in an enthralling Breeders Cup win after successfully defending her Prix d'Le Arc de Triomphe title.

John has beaten Highclere in successive St Legers – Theology was behind Arctic Cosmos and Census behind Masked Marvel. John’s 2,500 winners plus have come around the globe and as Highclere expands internationally, his experience and flair will be invaluable.
