Luca Cumani was born and raised in Italy and comes from a family steeped in racing so it was natural that he continued in that tradition by both race-riding and training. He came to England in the early seventies as assistant to Henry Cecil in Newmarket and began a tie with racing’s headquarters that has lasted ever since. He acquired the historic Bedford House Stables in 1976 and a ceaseless supply of winners have ensued ever since. He has won the Epsom Derby twice, firstly in 1988 with Kahyasi and again a decade later with High Rise. Alongside 14 Group 1 successes in the UK, he has a proven international track record with victories in the Hong Kong Cup with five time Group 1 winner Falbrav, the Japan Cup with Alkaased, Breeders Cup Mile with Barathea and last year he saddled Presvis to win the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free at Meydan.
