Ralph Beckett

Ralph began his racing career in Australia, working for training legends Bart Cummings and Colin Hayes. On returning to the UK, he was attached to two more ‘greats’ Jimmy Fitzgerald in Yorkshire and Peter Walwyn at Lambourn, taking over the license when Peter retired in 2000.

In 2006 Ralph took over Chris Harper’s Whitsbury Stables where he trained multiple winners, including the 2008 Epsom Oaks heroine Look Here and the Breeders’ Cup Marathon winner Muhannak. He is now established at his own yard - Kimpton Down Stables, Hampshire bought from another of racing’s great names, the late Toby Balding in 2010. The yard has since more than doubled in size from the original seventy boxes.

From Kimpton Ralph has continued to show an amazing propensity for turning out top class fillies, winning another Epsom Oaks with Talent in 2013 when Secret Gesture made it a Beckett 1-2. And then his Simple Verse became the first filly since User Friendly over twenty years before to land the 2016 St Leger.
