Roger Charlton

Beckhampton, near Marlborough, Wiltshire, is noted in the Doomesday Book  and its heritage has been jealously guarded by such giants of the Turf as Fred Darling, Sir Noel Murless, Jeremy Tree and since 1990, Roger Charlton. Roger has trained nine individual Group 1 winners and, in the same year; Quest For Fame to win the Derby, Sanglamore to land the Prix du Jockey Club and Deploy to beat all but Salsabil in the Irish Derby!

Roger provided Highclere with one of our earliest champions when Tamarisk became Cartier Champion Sprinter in 1998. In 2013 Roger sent out Al Kazeem to Group 1 success three times, including the Coral Eclipse.

Roger and his wife Clare have  made the beautiful and historic Beckhampton Stables a place of pilgrimage.  Their sons Harry and Tom are carrying on family traditions as invaluable assistants whose time will come.

Roger has produced many top class horses for Prince Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte operation, including Cityscape, winner of The Dubai Duty Free (Gr 1) and Bated Breath, placed in five Group 1s and winner of The Temple Stakes (Gr 2): both are successful stallions. Projection has been a flagbearing sprinter over three seasons for the Royal Ascot Racing Club.
