Brides Bay

Richard Hughes called before Royal Ascot to say that he had bought a lovely daughter of Cable Bay at the Tattersalls Goresbridge breeze up sale for £55,000. She is absolutely stunning and it was love at first sight, and it was a no brainer to snap her up. She has real size and scope too - she isn’t a small sharp filly and in fact she reminded me of Cachet who we bought at the Craven sale in that she stands over ground but has the strength to go on with now.

She has a fabulous physique, a beautiful head, with a great depth of shoulder and strong powerful quarters etc. It all fits together perfectly! She did one of the fastest breezes in the sale (top 20 of 243 horses) and galloped out well too. This was a very good effort from a filly who is not far off 16h.
Her sire, Cable Bay, who stands at Highclere Stud is having another outstanding season. He is the sire of Dragon Symbol who was first past the post in Saturday’s Commonwealth Cup (Gr 1) at Royal Ascot only to be demoted to second as the stewards deemed that he had interfered with Campanelle who finished second. Cable Bay is also the sire of Liberty Beach who won the Temple Stakes (Gr 2) before finishing a close up fifth in the King's Stand Stakes (Gr 1) at Royal Ascot. One mustn’t forget that Cable Bay was the champion first season sire standing at stud in Europe in 2019! This filly’s dam is a dual winning daughter of Royal Applause so there is speed from her sire and dam in her pedigree!
Brides Bay made a very encouraging start when finishing second at Newbury to an odds on shot and showed plenty of promise for the future. She then with great credit is a surprisingly hot maiden at Wolverhampton, coming from a very wide draw and looking like the winner before greeness got the better of her in the final furlong. Nonetheless she finished a very close up fourth only beaten a length.
