It was at Kevin Ryan’s yard in January 2020 when the Highclere team first set eyes on this cracking son of first season sire Kodi Bear.  We had been shown several young horses on a tour of Yorkshire that morning and it was this fella that completely stole the show.

He is a real belter - a very powerful and precocious-looking colt with a strong resemblance of his speed machine sire - Kodi Bear.  Kevin Ryan and agent Stephen Hillen spotted him at the Goffs Doncaster Premier Yearling sale and were delighted to have secured him for £52,000. Since then Kevin has become increasingly excited about this horse who he has seen progress into an eye-catching juvenile at Hambleton Lodge.  As such he told us he was only prepared to sell the horse if he could stay in for a leg!

We quickly agreed to buy 75% which looks seriously good value for a colt who boasts not only a cracking physique but a lovely pedigree as well. This colt is the first foal out of the winning Acclamation mare Notte Illuminata; a full sister to Group 2 winner Lilbourne Lad who also finished second in the Middle Park (Gr. 1) and the Gimcrack (Gr. 2).

Kodi Bear himself is a son of top sire Kodiac. He was an exceptional racehorse rated 123 in Timeform and a very precocious 2yo who ran well at Royal Ascot in the Coventry (Gr. 2) before winning a Listed race at Ascot. He ended his season finishing second in the Dewhurst (Gr. 1) before improving at three to win the Celebration Mile (Gr. 2) at Goodwood and the Sovereign Stakes (Gr. 3).

As a graduate of the Premier Yearling Sale, he qualifies for an early entry into the £300,000 Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes which is to be run at York in August 2020.

Digital made an excellent debut at Newcastle on the second day following the resumption of racing finishing second. He then ran a very good race at Doncaster to finish a close second again and was subsequently gelded. On his reappearance at Thirsk, he finished second again! but ran another very solid race only to bump into a good one. Digital finally got his lucky break fourth time out at Musselburgh, after breaking well he ran a very genuine race and proved to everyone what a consistent horse he is. He ran in the valuable Wetherby’s Racing Bank £200,000 2yo stakes (class 2) at Doncaster and put in a very strong effort but just didn't make the extra half furlong, however showed plenty of early speed to finish 6th out of 15 runners. His next run was in the William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (Listed Race) at Redcar where he was drawn low and couldn’t act on the heavy ground, so Tom Eaves said he had let Digital get home in his own time.

Digital has done well for a winter break and Kevin Ryan is looking forward to running him early on in the new turf season.
