This powerful colt by Mehmas who has done very well since he was purchased at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster where he impressed with his great strength and likely precocity.

By the very smart sprint dual Group 2-winning two-year-old Mehmas, those victories coming in the July Stakes and Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, he was also 2nd only to Churchill in the Gr.1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes.  Described by his trainer Richard Hannon as incredibly tough, we hope that this youngster will be in a similar mould.

His dam Mistress Makfi is by the 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi and is a half-sister to two Stakes-placed horses – Rare Ransom (3rd in Gr.2 Debutante Stakes) and Ransomed Bride (2nd in Carlingford Stakes).  There are Group winners aplenty in this pedigree, including the Champion 2yo European filly Pas De Response.

Host made a very encouraging debut at Kempton where he finished fifth in what looked a strong maiden and staying on strongly at the finish. He was unable to build on that run next time at Windsor where he weakened having looked as if he would be competitive. This seemed at odds with his work at home. Host put up a much better performance at Chepstow next time to finish second when ridden by Thore Hammer Hansen, proving genuine and showing the ability we knew he had. His next run at Sandown was somewhat disappointing coming a well beaten fourth, however he redeemed himself when stepping up in trip to seven furlongs to come a close second under Thore Hammer Hansen at Kempton. Host ran another consistent race over the seven-furlong trip at Lingfield to finish second again of fourteen runners. Host went to Kempton after showing a liking for the all-weather to run 3rd. He jumped well and stayed with the pace but when the front two kicked clear he was unable to quicken with them. He was faced with a higher class of opponent and did well. Host ran a disappointing race to come 8th of 12 at Wolverhampton before he was given a short and well deserved break and is now back in training with Richard Hannon. On his return to action he ran very well to finish second from the widest of draws back at Wolverhampton just failing to catch his stable mate. Surely the winners enclosure beckons for this highly consistent horse.

Host returned to action at Lingfield where he finished down the field and looking like he would benefit from stepping up in trip.
