Location: Newbury. Jack Channon took over the licence from his father Mick in 2023. Mick had purchased the historic West Ilsley Stables in 1999 from HM The Queen and there has been a raft of Classic winners trained there over the years. It was Nashwan, for trainer Major Dick Hern, that made the unique grass gallops famous following his legendary workout before the 1989 2000 Guineas.

Jack’s father and mentor Mick Channon has an amazing roll of honour in his 22-year career, boasting a host of Group 1 winners including, Piccolo, Tobougg, Queen’s Logic, Majestic Roi, Youmzain, Lahaleeb, Music Show and Samitar. Jack certainly has big boots to fill, but he hit the ground running when taking over the licence in 2023.

Jack sent out 49 winners in his first season and bettered that with 56 in 2024, earning just shy of £1million in domestic prize money. He’s on track to continue this trajectory in 2025 thanks to a terrific start to the season, operating at a strike rate of around 25%, which most trainers can only dream of doing.

Like many young trainers, Jack is hungry for success and his results reflect that ambition. The numerous grass gallops at his fingertips are undoubtedly Jack’s secret weapon, as they have been for many trainers before him. We are delighted to announce Jack Channon as our newest trainer to the Highclere roster in 2025 and look forward to a successful partnership.
