WHERE ARE THEY NOW
REFLEX (olly)
Reflex on Warren Hill (2022)
This month we catch up with Reflex who is a striking grey by El Kabeir who was trained with Charlie Fellowes until 2023 when we moved him on and trainer Kevin Frost picked him up. He trained on for another year before being retired and given a lovely home by Sarah Twigg who adores him. He is now enjoying life as an all-rounder and has even been to Aintree to enjoy some gallop training there! Please see below for a wonderful account of his new life:
“Olly is a 6yr old ex racer, he's a very cheeky but charming character, loves fuss attention and most of all treats, he has this charm about him that everybody loves him and he knows it!
We purchased Olly end of January 2024, he was 3 weeks from his last race at Newcastle, where he had raced from Kevin Frost yard, he came from an event rider Scott Wallace who had started retraining Olly and figured he loves to jump.
As soon as we arrived we loved him, he has that charisma about him, he came home with us and soon made friends with my 3 old horses, we live on a farm in Derbyshire with 8 acres and just have our own horses, me and Charly my daughter both ride him.
We have done some dressage, jumping and we was approached by Robyn to do a demonstration for the RoR at a clinic, which we was happy to do, he loved it and loves a crowd. We joined the RoR Midlands and they've been amazing at helping towards retraining Olly as there's lots to learn on how different they are and work whilst racing.
We are aiming to do some one day events, and lots of other shows, he's been doing lots of strengthening work with grids and poles and clinics all over, he's been to Aintree to a camp where he did gallop training, he was fast and what a buzz I got!
He's so sweet always wanting cuddles and loves a fuss even when laid down relaxing and any other times, he's going to dressage carnival camp at Aintree this summer, which we are looking forward too.
Olly has regular, dentist, farrier, physio and body work throughout his change in career as they work so differently to racing, I've enjoyed watching his races and finding his back ground out aswell as seeing him change and grow, he's now at his home for life couldn't be happier with him, he's such a gem. ” - Sarah Twigg
