Harry’s Introduction…
I must admit that I was somewhat nervous ahead of the Royal Meeting this year wondering whether I would be strong enough post my op earlier in the year to cope with the first four days of the meeting. Thankfully all went well and I thoroughly enjoyed everything that this great race meeting had to offer. First and foremost, it gave me the opportunity to meet up with so many of our shareowners at the picnics in the owners and trainers car park ahead of racing. On the racecourse we only had a few runners but on the whole they ran well and to see Rhapsody travelling on the bridle behind a wall of horses in the Kensington Palace was both thrilling and exasperating! What a race she ran to be fourth and then seeing Conclave run his heart out to finish sixth of thirty runners was again really exciting. Topaz’s inexperience sadly told in the Albany but the way that this daughter of Persian Force flew past horses in the last furlong when the penny dropped left no doubt that she would be winning races very soon. Definitely one to watch going forward! Our fourth runner, Awaken looked fabulous but appeared not to stay in the Sandringham so we will bring her back in trip which should see her return to winning ways.
The pageantry and outstanding racing over the week was really something to behold so hats off to Ascot and their management team for putting on such a wonderful spectacle.
We are currently running at 21% winners to runners, a really strong stat that we want to try and keep at this level as the season advances. There is so much to look forward to in the months ahead with many of the two-year-olds about to run whilst the star older horses such as Antipodes, Centigrade and Respond look to go on to even bigger and better things!
It feels great to be back so here’s to much fun and excitement to come in the weeks ahead!
With my best wishes,
Harry Herbert

ROYAL ASCOT REVIEW
Royal Ascot never disappoints. Widely regarded as the crown jewel of the British Flat racing season, this five-day festival, featuring eight Group 1 races, brings together the world's finest thoroughbreds, jockeys and trainers to compete at the very highest level.
A Letter to Highclere
Brought up on a farm in rural County Clare, Jilly's father bred horses. These were for show rather than racing, but he enjoyed some success. Nevertheless, his dream was to have a have a horse running at Royal Ascot. Sadly, that was not to be but, on Wednesday, Rhapsody helped Jilly live that dream for him. Not only that, to finish a competitive fourth was truly the icing on the cake!
Rolf’s Ramblings
Royal Ascot is god’s gift to the ‘Red Top’ tabloid newspapers. In their ‘over the top’ lingo, the meeting is playtime for toffs and for excess: for Aidan O’Brien it’s about the pursuit of success - hence his fourteenth Royal meeting top trainer title. His seven victories brought up an unprecedented total of one hundred Royal meeting winners, the first in 1997. And there is every chance that the future is in O’Brien hands – his eldest son Joseph beat his father and everybody else five times and the youngest, Donnacha, is lurking in the wings.
Clodagh’s Recipe
In all this glorious mid summer sunshine I thought this lemony cheesecake with hazelnut biscuit base would provide the perfect seasonal pudding this month!
TAITTINGER MOMENT
The Taittinger Moment this month can only go to Mark Kershaw aka The Captain. Who, year on year, continues to be the picnic planner extraordinaire! Well deserved recognition for looking after over 300 guests over 4 days.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW
It was a great thrill for those who went on the Coolmore trip recently to see Believing who was paraded looking magnificent in foal to Frankel.
