Owen took out his own licence in 2016 as a private trainer for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum. Previously he honed his trade under the masterful Sir Michael Stoute who he assisted for 12 years. During that time, he oversaw the training of three Derby winners, a Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, multiple Breeders’ Cup winners and too many Group 1 winners to mention.

It’s at Sir Michael Stoute’s that Highclere’s relationship with Owen began and a highlight of that association was undoubtedly Harbinger’s record-breaking victory in the 2010 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. A race he would go on to win as a trainer with Hukum in 2023.

Now in his tenth year of training, Owen has his own Group 1 roll of honour to be proud of. The stakes winners came thick and fast from the start, but his Group 1 breakthrough came with Hukum’s victory in the 2022 Coronation Cup at Epsom. Minzaal delivered a topflight success in the sprint division when winning the 2022 Haydock Sprint Cup and his latest star Anmaat provided a career highlight with success in the hugely valuable Champion Stakes at Ascot in 2024.

We are delighted to welcome Owen onto the roster of Highclere trainers in 2025, and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship.
